The Word Is Older Than the Character by 2,700 Years

Homer put the Cimmerians at the far edge of the map in the Odyssey — a people living under permanent cloud, never once touched by the sun. Herodotus wrote about them later as a real Iron Age nation riding down out of the steppe, and Assyrian tablets back him up. By the 1500s the word had drifted into English as an ordinary adjective meaning dark and gloomy, and there it sat for four centuries until a pulp writer went looking for somewhere cold to be from. Atlantis has the same shape of history: Plato put it in a dialogue around 360 BC to make an argument, and it has been running loose ever since.

Two Swords, One Shelf

There are only two here, and they could not be less alike. The Atlantean Sword is the heavier one, a broad double-edged blade with runes cut into the fuller, a beast-headed crossguard, and its own die-cast scabbard in the box. The Father's Sword is the lighter one and the older design in the story — gold-fitted hilt, red-brown wrapped grip, runes again down the middle. Buy either and the other one starts calling.

The Forge Standard

Die-cast zinc alloy, hand-finished, with every edge and point cast blunt — display collectibles, recommended for ages 14+. One of the two is a single body; the other is a two-part set, because a scabbard has to come off to be a scabbard. Both carry runic marks cut into the fuller, though we won't pretend to translate them. Every photo on this page is ours — shot in our own studio, of the exact piece we ship.
