Sting is the other end of the story: the smallest blade in Bilbo and Frodo's hands, and, oddly enough, the single heaviest piece in the entire Vault at 195g.

By size. The Vault splits into three bands. Bow of the Galadhrim and Orcrist sit at the short end, 18–21cm — browse that range in the 16–21cm collection. Galadriel's Dagger, Ranger Sword, and Thranduil's Sword hold the middle at 22cm, in the 22–25cm collection. And the four biggest pieces — Andúril, Sting, Glamdring, and Galadriel Sword — all run a full 30cm, catalogued in the 30cm+ collection.

The Legends Behind These Blades — and the Ones We Made Up

A blade that had to be broken to become whole. Andúril is the sword reforged from the shards of Narsil, the blade that cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand thousands of years earlier and then lay broken for the rest of the Third Age. It's reforged at Rivendell and carried by Aragorn from his ranger days through his coronation as King of Gondor — which is why we sell the pre-coronation version separately as the Ranger Sword: same story, different chapter.

Found in a troll's hoard, still glowing centuries later. Glamdring and Orcrist came out of the same find — a hoard of troll treasure discovered on the road to Rivendell. Glamdring, "Foe-hammer" to the goblins who feared it, becomes Gandalf's sword for the rest of the story. Orcrist, "Goblin-cleaver," goes to Thorin Oakenshield, and after his death in the Battle of Five Armies, the Elvenking of Mirkwood lays it back on his tomb — a return gift between two rulers who never much liked each other.

A knife for an elf, a sword for everyone else. Sting started as a small, leaf-shaped blade in that same troll hoard — sized for a hobbit's hand, which makes it a dagger by elvish standards and a proper short sword by Bilbo and Frodo's. It glows blue when orcs are close, which is the whole reason it's useful to two people who'd rather avoid a fight than win one.

A bow with a paper trail, and a sword and dagger without one. The Bow of the Galadhrim has real textual roots: Tolkien's own text describes the Galadhrim of Lothlórien gifting Legolas a bow bigger and sturdier than the one he carried out of Mirkwood, as the Fellowship leaves the Golden Wood. Galadriel Sword and Galadriel's Dagger don't have that same paper trail — there's no single named blade or dagger belonging to Galadriel in Tolkien's text the way there's a Sting or an Andúril. Those two are our own tribute pieces, built around her warrior-queen presence in the films rather than one specific named weapon. We'd rather tell you that than let you assume otherwise.

Which piece is the heaviest, and which is the lightest?

Sting is the heaviest at 195g (6.9oz) — odd, for the smallest blade in the story — and the Bow of the Galadhrim is the lightest at 29g (1.0oz), which tracks, since it's the only piece in the Vault that isn't solid metal from grip to tip.

Are Galadriel Sword and Galadriel's Dagger real named weapons from the books?
