By origin. Four of the five come straight from The Witcher 3: two DLC legendaries (Aerondight, Grandmaster Wolven Silver Sword) and two base-game pieces (Iris Steel Sword, Tapered Steel Blade). The fifth, Round-Guard Silver Blade, isn't a game piece at all — it's built off the Netflix series' own design, a different production's take on the same idea.

By weight, since size won't help you here. Every piece is the same 22cm (8.7in), so weight is the only real variable across the Armory. Aerondight is the heaviest at 86g; Round-Guard Silver Blade is the lightest at 67g — a 19g spread across five otherwise-identical lengths.

The Story Behind Each Blade

A sword that gets stronger every time you use it. Aerondight comes from the Blood and Wine expansion, a gift from the Lady of the Lake after Geralt proves himself through a set of trials built around the five chivalric virtues. It's not a static legendary — fast attacks bank one charge, strong attacks bank two, and landing a kill with ten charges banked permanently adds damage, up to five times per character level. The name isn't a Witcher 3 invention, either: it goes back to the very first Witcher game in 2007, and it's a nod to Arthurian legend — Aerondight is the name of Lancelot's sword in older tellings of the Lady of the Lake story. Whether Andrzej Sapkowski used the name in his original novels is something we couldn't confirm while fact-checking this page, so we're not claiming it here.

A parting gift from a man who sold his soul. Iris Steel Sword comes out of the Hearts of Stone expansion, tied to Olgierd von Everec — a nobleman who traded his soul away and spent the whole expansion trying to get it back. Steer his ending toward saving what's left of him, and he hands Geralt this sword as a goodbye gift on his way out of his old life. It's steel, not silver, which tracks: whatever Olgierd was by the end, he wasn't a monster.

Top of a five-rung ladder most players never climb. Grandmaster Wolven Silver Sword sits at the very top of the Wolf School gear upgrade path, introduced in Blood and Wine — Mastercrafted gear can be pushed one tier further to Grandmaster, and the diagrams for it aren't handed to you. They're behind a treasure hunt that starts with the Grandmaster Armorer in Beauclair and ends in a set of ruins outside the city. It's also level-gated, so most players who own the base Wolven set never actually see this version equipped.

The one that isn't from the games at all. Round-Guard Silver Blade is built off the design from the Netflix series, not The Witcher 3 — a different production's take on the same idea. Geralt carries a steel sword and a silver sword on the show too, same rule as the games: steel goes through people, silver goes through whatever isn't. The rights holder here isn't CD Projekt Red — it's Netflix, since this one's a screen design, not a game asset.

And the one with no story at all, on purpose. Tapered Steel Blade doesn't come with a quest, a DLC, or a named owner. It's the plain steel sword every witcher reaches for first, and there's something honest about including it: not every named blade in an Armory needs a legend attached to earn its shelf space.
