Every Named Sword in The Legend of Zelda, Ranked by Lore
The Master Sword is the most storied blade in The Legend of Zelda — but far from the only named sword in Hyrule's timeline. Here are the fifteen that carry true narrative weight, ranked by lore, not by attack stats.
Ask ten players to name a Zelda sword and you'll get the same answer ten times. Ask them to name five, and the room goes quiet. The franchise has been quietly naming blades since 1986 — swords that split their wielder into four, a sword that failed to execute a king, a sword famous for going dull. We forge six of these fifteen in die-cast metal, which means this ranking comes with something most tier lists can't offer: real gram weights off our own workbench.
How Do You Rank a Sword by Lore?
By narrative weight — how much a blade matters to the story of Hyrule, how many eras it touches, and whether the legend would still stand without it. Not by damage numbers, durability meters, or where to farm one. If you want stats, the games have menus; this list is about which swords the timeline itself would miss.

Why Do the Divine Blades Take the Top Five?
Because Hyrule's greatest swords aren't tools — they're characters.
1. Master Sword. The through-line of the entire franchise: home to the spirit Fi, the one weapon that reliably repels Ganon's evil across every era, the key that turns time itself in Ocarina — and in Tears of the Kingdom, a blade worth restoring across literal millennia. It's also the heaviest cast on our bench at 183g; for once, lore rank and the scale agree. The Master Sword replica is where most collections start, for the same reason most timelines do.
2. Goddess Sword. Before the legend, there was this: the goddess Hylia's own blade, already housing Fi, tempered through sacred flames until it became the Master Sword. Number one literally does not exist without number two. Ours weighs in at 106g — the full story is in our Goddess Sword deep dive .
3. Fierce Deity Sword. The double-helix greatsword of the Fierce Deity — the god a cursed mask keeps sealed, and Majora's Mask's darkest what-if. A blade this ominous casting at just 71g is the franchise's best joke about power and appearances; we unpack it in the Fierce Deity forging story .
4. Four Sword. The only blade whose magic targets the wielder: draw it and one hero becomes four. It sealed the wind mage Vaati and carried three whole games on its gimmick. No other sword in the series has a mechanic this load-bearing.
5. Sword of the Six Sages. The sages drove this glowing blade through Ganondorf — and he pulled it out and kept it. A failed execution weapon turned trophy of the man it couldn't kill is the single most metal piece of lore in the series.
What About the Mortal-Forged Legends?
6. Biggoron's Sword. The best sword mortal hands ever produced in Hyrule: a Goron master smith's two-hander waiting at the end of Ocarina's longest trading chain. It out-weighs everything on our bench except the Master Sword itself — 137g of it, covered in the Biggoron's Sword deep dive .
7. Great Fairy's Sword. A Great Fairy's gift in Majora's Mask — black blade, rose filigree, less a weapon than a blessing you're allowed to swing.
8. Picori Blade. The Minish-forged sword that sealed away evil in a chest, and whose reforging sets the Four Sword's story in motion. The origin of #4, and proof the tiny folk out-forged the tall ones.
9. Phantom Sword. Forged from three pure metals for exactly one job: cutting a monster that devours time. Highly specific, wildly successful.
10. Lokomo Sword. Spirit Tracks' sacred blade, entrusted by a sage so a demon king could be finished properly. Quiet game, heavyweight sword.
11. Gilded Sword. The Razor Sword reborn with gold dust — permanent where its predecessor was fragile, and the ceiling of Hyrule's mortal reforging chain.
Which Blades Round Out the Fifteen?
12. Razor Sword. The fragile middle child of Majora's smithing chain: sharper than what came before, famously temporary. There's a certain irony in casting the impermanent sword in permanent metal — 87g of it, in the Razor Sword forging story .
13. Kokiri Sword. The forest kids' hidden treasure and every legend's first blade. Low power, maximum sentiment.
14. Scimitar of the Seven. Urbosa's personal blade — Gerudo champion craft where the culture matters more than the cutting.
15. Windcleaver. The Yiga blademaster's signature, a sword that throws wind at people. On our bench it's the strangest ratio we cast: 26cm long, just 49g — a blade built entirely for speed.
What Happened to the Original 1986 Swords?
They're still here, in spirit. The White Sword and Magical Sword from the original 1986 Legend of Zelda are the franchise's first named blades — honorable mentions on seniority alone. Demise's blade from Skyward Sword nearly made the list as the Master Sword's dark mirror, but the sword itself is technically never named; its spirit, Ghirahim, gets all the billing. And then there's the modern equipment shelf — Royal Broadsword, Royal Guard's line, Zora Sword, Edge of Duality — blades named the way military hardware is named. We forge five of those too; they live with the rest of the family in the armory hub below.
The Honest Corner
This ranking is editorial opinion — ours, argued over the workbench — and it's ranked for story, not for damage-per-second. We forge six of the fifteen, and the list doesn't bend toward our shelf: if it did, the Royal Broadsword wouldn't be sitting in honorable mentions. Everything we make is a 1:6 scale, cast-blunt display collectible for ages 14+, fan-made and unofficial, not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo. No blade on this page glows, splits you into four, or repels evil. They just sit there looking like they could.
FAQ
- What is the strongest sword in Zelda lore? — The Master Sword, by role rather than raw numbers: it's the only blade the legend consistently trusts to repel Ganon's evil, era after era.
- Is the Fierce Deity Sword more powerful than the Master Sword? — In raw legend, arguably — it belongs to a sealed god. But lore rank is about narrative weight, and the Master Sword is the narrative.
- Which named sword is the oldest? — Two answers: by release, the White Sword and Magical Sword from the original 1986 game; in-universe, the Goddess Sword predates everything as the Master Sword's original form.
- How many named swords exist across all Zelda games? — Dozens, once you count modern equipment-tier blades. These fifteen are the ones with genuine narrative weight; the rest are named the way a parking space is named.
- Are your replicas official Nintendo products? — No. Every piece is an independently designed fan-art collectible from our two-person studio.
