More Than a Toothpick: Analyzing the 92g Density of the "Orcrist" Compact Replica

25 Jan 2026 0 comments

Most Elven swords, like Glamdring or Thranduil’s sword, are elegant. They flow like water.
Orcrist is different. It is elegant, yes, but in the way a shark's tooth is elegant. It is designed for one thing: biting.

Known as the "Goblin-Cleaver," this was the weapon found in the Troll hoard and claimed by Thorin Oakenshield.
Replicating this in our Compact Class (21cm) presented a fun challenge: How do we make a small sword feel aggressive?
The answer is Blade Thickness. At 92g, this is one of the densest items in the $19.99 tier. Here is the technical breakdown.

⚒️ Key Specs at a Glance

  • Total Length: 21cm (Compact Class).

  • Net Weight: 92g (Heavyweight for its size).

  • Material: Solid Zinc Alloy.

  • Hilt Design: Simulated "Dragon Tooth" organic curve.

  • Price: $19.99.

The "Cleaver" Geometry: Why it Weighs 92g

Anime-style zinc alloy replica sword with sheath, treasure chest, and skulls on black gravelIf you compare Orcrist to the Ranger Sword (which is also roughly 22cm but weighs only 67g), the difference is obvious.
The Ranger Sword is a standard double-edged blade with a central taper.
Orcrist is a single-edged saber.

  • The Spine: The back edge of the blade is thick and unsharpened, providing structural support for the cutting edge. This extra metal volume boosts the weight to 92g.

  • The Curve: The blade swells near the tip (similar to a falchion). This puts the weight forward. When you hold this miniature, it wants to "fall" into a chop. It feels active in the hand, not static.

The Hilt: Metal that Mimics Bone

Anime-style zinc alloy sword replica keychain on wood, collectible by BlacksmithSONGThe handle of Orcrist doesn't look like a manufactured weapon; it looks like a trophy.
In the lore, the hilt is made from the tooth of a dragon.
To replicate this on a Zinc Alloy casting:

  1. The Mold: We avoided standard crossguards. The guard flows seamlessly into the blade (the Ecthelion runic guard).

  2. The Texture: The grip features a spiraling, organic grain that mimics aged bone or ivory. We used a "Dark Wash" technique on the metal to highlight these grooves, making the handle look ancient and weathered, contrasting with the polished steel of the blade.

As you can see in the video, we staged this blade with a treasure chest and gold coins. It fits the narrative of Thorin perfectly—a King claiming his heritage from a hoard.

The Scabbard: A Perfect Sheath

Our replica comes with a matte black scabbard featuring gunmetal-grey fittings.
Pay attention to the metal throat (the top of the scabbard). It mimics the wood-grain style of the Elves of Gondolin. The sword slides in with a satisfying friction fit, holding the heavy 92g blade securely even when displayed vertically on a stand.

The Blacksmith's Verdict

Orcrist is for the collector who likes the "Badass" aesthetic.
It isn't as long as Andúril, and it isn't as flashy as Gold-plated Oathkeeper. But it has a savage beauty.

  • Don't buy it if you want a traditional, symmetrical sword.

  • Buy it ($19.99) if you want a compact replica that feels surprisingly heavy and looks like it could split a goblin's helmet.

It is a small piece of the Lonely Mountain, forged for a King Under the Mountain.

Biter and Beater.
