Two Swords, Two Jobs

Geralt carries two blades on his back for the same reason a plumber carries two wrenches. Steel goes through men, bandits and the occasional drunk knight. Silver is reserved for whatever isn't human — soft, expensive, useless in a bar fight, which is exactly why carrying it advertises the trade. The rack splits along that line. Aerondight is the silver one that gets stronger the more it kills, a gift from the Lady of the Lake and the only blade here whose name is older than the games. Iris is the steel one, an heirloom off a cursed nobleman's estate. The rest of the rack is walked through blade by blade in our write-up on steel and silver.

Where to Start

Three ways in. Aerondight is the one to own if you only own one — the heaviest piece in the armory, and the only name here that came out of a novel rather than a patch note. Iris is the steel counterweight, and the better-looking sword of the two if you ask us. And if you came in through the show instead of the games, the silver sword from the series is its own design, not the game one wearing a different label.

A rack of blades at one length turns the differences into detail work: crossguard shapes, fullers, pommels, the runework running down a silver edge.
