An axe is the only thing on this wall with a legitimate civilian career. Every other weapon here was designed from scratch to hurt people; the axe was invented to cut wood, and then somebody noticed. That origin never quite washes off, and designers lean into it — the axe is what you hand the character who doesn't do finesse. It swings, it cleaves, it does not parry. Which is also why axe design goes so hard on the head: with no blade length to play with, everything interesting has to happen at the business end.

Where to Start

Pick by the head, which mostly means picking by where it came from. The loudest two belong to the Azeroth Armory — that world has never designed a subtle axe in its life. The Lands Between Armory brings the ceremonial end: long hafts, crowned heads, real weight behind them. And the most recognisable axe in modern games sits in the Nine Realms Armory, where it's also one of the smaller pieces on this shelf.

Axes carry their weight in one place: most of the mass sits in the head, which means they lie flat beautifully and stand badly.
