One Fang, Two Very Different Swords

Toga left three swords behind, and two of them came out of his own fang. Totosai forged Tessaiga — spelled Tetsusaiga in the older dub — to destroy, and Tenseiga to restore, and Tenseiga was carved out of Tessaiga: a father deliberately keeping the power to revive away from the son he was handing the power to kill. Which is how the elder brother ended up with a blade that cannot cut a living thing, and spent years trying to take the one that can. Tessaiga only shows its true form in the hands of someone protecting a human. Both fangs are laid out side by side in our write-up on the two swords.

Where to Start

Two pieces, and they split the way the brothers do. Tessaiga is the one people picture first: a thick single-edged blade curved like the fang it was made from, a tuft of white fur at the guard, and no scabbard at all. Tenseiga is the quiet one — slim, orthodox, longer than its brother and noticeably lighter in the hand, which is the wrong way round if you go by reputation.

Both blades are die-cast zinc alloy, poured solid and hand-finished, with every edge cast blunt — display collectibles, recommended for ages 14+.
