The Flame of the West: A Technical Analysis of the 104g "Andúril" Replica

13 Jan 2026 0 comments

“I am Andúril who was Narsil, the sword of Elendil. Let the thralls of Mordor flee me.”

In the lore of Middle-earth, this sword represents the return of the King. It was forged from the shards of Narsil by the Elvensmiths of Rivendell.
For a replica manufacturer, Andúril is the final boss. It requires a perfect straight line, complex engravings down the blade center, and a very specific open-work hilt design.

We didn't just want to make a sword that looked like it; we wanted to make one that felt like it had been reforged.
Here is the technical breakdown of our 30cm Andúril, the flagship of the BlacksmithSONG LOTR collection.

⚒️ Key Specs at a Glance

  • Total Length: 30cm (Standard Class).

  • Net Weight: 104g (Agile, balanced longsword feel).

  • Material: Zinc Alloy with Antique Silver finish.

  • Key Detail: Legible Quenya inscriptions in the blade fuller.

  • Price: $29.99 (Includes Free Global Shipping).

The Rune Challenge: Legibility at 30cm

The soul of Andúril lies in its inscription.
Running down the fuller (the groove in the center) are runes that say: "Anar. Nányë Andúril i né Narsil makil Elendilo. Isil." (Sun. I am Andúril who was Narsil, sword of Elendil. Moon.)

On many 30cm replicas, this is just a blurry line of squiggles.
We chose a different path. We used a high-precision mold to ensure the runes are crisp and distinct. We then applied a dark "age-wash" to the recesses. This makes the letters pop against the silver blade, mimicking the look of the sword in the movies when it catches the light.

104g: The Balance of a Ranger

Here is a fact that might surprise you: Andúril (104g) is lighter than our Sting replica (195g).
Why? It comes down to Physics and Design.

Sting is a short, thick wedge of metal. Andúril is a long, elegant two-handed sword.

  • The Blade: It tapers significantly towards the tip, reducing weight to allow for speed.

  • The Hilt: The pommel is hollow (see below), which removes unnecessary mass.

This 104g weight feels "fast" in the hand. It doesn't drag. It feels like a weapon wielded by a Ranger who has spent 80 years hunting orcs in the wild, not a clumsy bar of iron.

The Hollow Pommel: A Casting Headache

The pommel of Andúril is iconic. It features an open-work design with a hollow center.
For mass production, it is much cheaper to cast this as a solid lump of metal. We refused to do that.
Our mold preserves the negative space inside the pommel. This is a small detail, but for the hardcore fan, it is the difference between a "toy" and a "replica." It matches the prop used by Viggo Mortensen on screen.

The Scabbard: Fit for a King

A King cannot walk around with a naked blade.
The scabbard included with this replica features reinforced metal fittings at the throat and tip, painted in a subtle gold/bronze accent to match the royal heritage of Gondor. The sword clicks satisfyingly into place, allowing you to display it sheathed or drawn on the included stand.

The Blacksmith's Verdict

Andúril is the starting point.
If you are building a Middle-earth collection, you start here.
At $29.99, you are paying for the mold complexity—specifically the runes and the hollow pommel.

  • Is it the heaviest sword we make? No (wait until you see Sting).

  • Is it the most elegant? Absolutely.

It captures the nobility of the Dúnedain. It looks stunning under a desk lamp, especially if you have a map of Middle-earth nearby.

The King has returned.
