The story goes that the smith who reforged it tried to dye the steel crimson for the family paying the bill, and the metal only half-agreed — which is why the ripples ended up somewhere between smoke and dried blood. What Is Oathkeeper?

Oathkeeper is one of two blades cut from a single ancestral greatsword — Ice, taken from an honorable northern lord after his execution and melted down into a pair. The one-handed knight who gave it away handed his half to an oath-bound lady knight, who named it for the promise she meant to keep.

The Desk It Was Given On

We set this one on a lord's desk instead of a battlefield, because that's where it actually changed hands: deep red cloth, a stack of bound books and folded maps, a gold goblet still holding wine, a brass-cornered chest sitting open. Loose coins, two persimmons, a couple of small leather notebooks. Every photo on this page is a real camera aimed at real objects inside that handbuilt set — no CGI, no renders, nothing rendered after the fact. The promise attached to this blade was about finding two highborn girls and getting them home; the younger one is still carrying Needle , and never did need rescuing.

The Metalwork

One zinc-alloy body out of the mold, hand-finished at our bench. The beast heads at the guard, the lion's face on the scabbard and the herringbone texture on its cap are all shaped in the mold — get close and the relief throws real shadow instead of flattening out.
