What Is Glamdring?

Glamdring is the sword forged in a lost elven city of the elder days for the king who ruled it, and lost when that city fell. Thousands of years later a certain grey wizard pulled it out of a troll-hoard and carried it for the rest of the saga. The name translates as Foe-hammer; goblins who met it called it Beater.

Where a Fallen City Went Quiet

We built a pale shore for this one: still water, white stone, a bleached dead tree leaning out over the edge, broken columns holding up nothing at all, and a small carved figure still playing to an audience that left several ages ago. Black feathers scattered across the sand. A glass sphere off to the right, quietly collecting whatever light the set gives it. It photographs like the morning after something magnificent ended — which is more or less this sword's entire biography. What 30cm Feels Like

Almost exactly as wide as a 12-inch vinyl record, end to end — and there's a ruler in the photo set if you'd rather see it measured than described. At 128g (4.5 oz) it pulls downward in the palm the way a hollow prop never manages to, most of that concentrated where the guard flares. The in-hand shot does the rest of the talking.

The Metalwork

One pour, one zinc-alloy body, then hand-finishing by the two of us. The guard is where this casting earns its keep: the forward sweep, the raised tracery running across its face, and the fanned pommel are all shaped in the mold, so the detail holds up under a macro lens instead of dissolving into a blur. There's a small ring cast at the pommel and another at the scabbard's throat. The scabbard itself is a separate piece, with its own collar and rounded tip.
